Product Reviews

About the Book:  Anistasia moves to Brooksville where she meets John. The duo hit it off almost instantly and become best friends before it grows into something more than friendship. While they blossom together they have to go through the daily routine of high school drama and jealous ex’s on John’s part and over bearing brothers on Anistasia’s part. But each struggle seems to hold the two together even more.
Along with the daily high school problems they also have to deal with the mafia hunting down Anistasia, John’s mafia father, and the every other weekend street races. Running from bad guys, keeping the cops out of the know how, and trying to stay undetected is proving to be more of a handful when the only person you can trust is also on the run.

My Review:  After reading the book summary, I was intrigued so when I got the opportunity to review it, I was excited. Let me just say that I wasn’t disappointed. I actually couldn’t put the book down.  The plot was great and the characters were very realistic. This is a great summer read. I can’t wait to read more books from this author.

Mighty Fine Movie Review

Recently I had the pleasure of seeing an advanced screening of the movie “Mighty Fine”. This is an indie film starring Chazz Palminteri, Andie MacDowell, Rainey Qualley, and Jodelle Ferland that comes out in select theaters on May 25.

Set in the 70′s, it is the story of Joe Fine (Chazz Palminteri) a charismatic, high-spirited man, who relocates his family–wife Stella (Andie MacDowell), a Holocaust survivor, daughters Nathalie (Jodelle Ferland) and Maddie (Rainey Qualley)–from Brooklyn to New Orleans, in search of a better life. Unfortunately, Joe’s spending spree is wildly out of touch with reality, as his apparel business is teetering on the brink of collapse, a fact he refuses to accept. When he is faced with failure, his insecurities flare up and make him act out in crazy ways, almost like a child having a tantrum. When Joe is feeling rich there’s nothing he won’t do for his family, but when he’s feeling poor and trapped by the prospect of failure, he becomes a caged animal, any slight against him is responded to reflexively and aggressively.

This movie was amazing. The entire movie is about how Joe’s increasing rage issues take a toll on the family. Some people say that he was bipolar but that is never mentioned in the movie. I feel that people should not jump to conclusions when it comes to that. I feel that he is just a man that doesn’t know how to cope with the stresses of life in any other way so when he gets angry at his life, he takes it out on his family. The best part of this movie is just when you think the family has been torn apart, they pull together.

I feel this movie portrays a family that truly loves each other and has such a strong bond that no matter how bad things got, they pulled together and took care of their family. I would highly recommend seeing this movie. Check out the movie on the “Mighty Fine” site, the “Mighty Fine” facebook page, and the trailer below.

After the movie, we had a chance to do a Q&A via video chat with Rainey Qualley and Chazz Palminteri. That was such a nice surprise and it was so nice to hear what their thoughts were about the story. Check out the screenshots of them from the Q&A session below.

Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler Giveaway 1

Our recycling bin has to stay in the garage because it is blue, big and bulky. It makes it dificult to recycle since nobody wants to have to go down stairs to the garage with every bit of trash. I have tried to figure out a way to put some sort of container in my kitchen but unfortunately, with the way my ktichen is set up, there is no room for one.

When Rubbermaid contact me about trying out their new Hidden Recycler, I jumped on the chance. I was so excited when it came in. My favorite feature is that you could either screw it in permanently or you can hang it over the door of your cabinet.

Ever since I installed the Hidden Recycler, I have seen an increase in the amount of items that we recycle. And what’s great is that when it’s full, I just grab the handle, bring it down to the garage and dump it into the recycling bin. I absolutely love this product.

Some of the great features include:

  • Easy attachment to a cabinet door with hooks included with the product or screws
  • A convenient handle allows the bag to easily be transported to wherever your recycling is stored for pick-up or transport
  • A 5 gallon bag that holds up to 36 12-ounce cans and can fit a milk jug
  • The bag has a leak-proof liner and is machine washable to make it easy to clean after any unexpected spills
  • The bag is soft-sided allowing for flexibility inside any cabinet
  • The bag and all packaging is made from recyclable material, and the product is recyclable

A free adaptation of Charles Perrault’s famous Puss’n Boots, “The True Story of Puss’n Boots” is a story for young and old for the first time.

This classic children’s tale tells the story of a young farmer’s son who inherits a strange talking cat with magical boots. With his cunning wit, Puss helps him win the heart of the Princess while battling devious suitors that are after the throne.

Starring Emmy and Golden Globe winner William Shatner as the voice of Puss, the DVD features exclusive interview footage with the star about the movie.

For more information about the film, visit http://www.pussnboots-themovie.mk2.com/ or The True Story of Puss’n Boots Facebook page via Phase 4 Film.

Please note: This is NOT the same version as the Antonio Banderas film coming to theaters in November.

My Thoughts:  I tried watching this with my 4-year-old daughter and she just was not interested so I watched it alone. Let me just say that I am glad that she didn’t want to watch it. I found the movie to not be very suitable for a 4 year old. While the movie may have been okay for older kids, I found it to be a bit racy and dark for young kids. The characters seemed too “mature” and some were down right creepy. Now if I had gone into this with the mindset of this movie being for older kids, I may have thought this was a decent movie. Unfortunately this movie is rated G and I feel that it falls into the Shrek category of kids movies and should be rated PG.

Lite Sprites Review

by Maggie on September 20, 2011

Lite-Sprites-Review

I jumped at the chance to review the Lite Sprites. This is a brand new toy that has just been released. It looked so cool, I just knew that my 4 year old daughter, Stefania, would love it. Anything that lights up is like gold to her but to be able to change the colors, oh my.

When I opened the toys up, she was so happy to see that she was getting some new toys. I then handed her the wand and showed her how to capture colors, add them to the library, and then use the wand to change the color of the sprites. She was hooked.

Lite-Sprites-Reveiw-1

She kept grabbing colors off the wheel and anything she could get her hands on and then changing the sprites. There are other activities that you can do but all she wants to do is change the colors for now. She just loves that she can change the colors of everything to the color that she wants with the press of a button on the wand. It’s magic!

She also likes to turn everything on when she begins playing and turning everything off when she is done. She did have some trouble turning the wand off at the beginning. The switch has three positions with the off position being in the middle. She had a hard time getting it to click in the middle. She would end up either going all the way up or all the way down. After a while, she did get the hang of it.

Lite-Sprites-Reveiw-3

New toys are only played with for about a week in our house because she gets bored very easily. I am happy to say that we are going on our third week and the Lite Sprites are still being played with daily! I would say that this is a must have toy for this holiday season!

Lite-Sprites-Reveiw-2

Check them out at http://www.litesprites.com, on the Lite Sprites Facebook Page, and @LiteSprites on Twitter.
