The River Runes Review & Giveaway

About the Book:  Jonathan is a young man, on the cusp of taking his Master’s place as magician of Third Chapel. Things are better than he ever expected; he’s becoming closer to his father, he is in the midst of a blossoming romance, and his magical abilities are growing every day.

And then an exotic stranger named Bixby finds his way to Third Chapel. The faerie is curious about the people that inhabit Caithiir, the great city that stands so close to the woods, and Mother is not around to stop him from finding out what he can.

Mother, however, has been awakened in Bixby’s absence only to find that one of her own has openly defied her. Jonathan and his Master are determined to protect Bixby, but the cost may be more than they can afford to lose.

My Review:  This was an excellent book. This is not my usual type of book but something about the synopsis made me want to read it. Let me tell you it did not disappoint! It was a very interesting book that was hard to put down. Great summer reading.

Where to Buy:  Amazon, Createspace, Smashwords

Author Bio:   My name is Ken Lindsey, and I am now 30 years old.

I have been writing for as long as I can remember, and will continue to write until there are no white pages left for me. I write for myself, it’s a release-a breath, and I write for my children. I want them to know that there are other worlds out there, worlds with real heroes, and worlds made up of whatever colors they can imagine. My Big Girl, my Princess, my Baby Girl, and my Baby Boy- they make my world so much bigger.

Recently I published the 2nd edition of my first novel, The River Runes, with a new cover and quite a few edits that I am very excited about.

I have also started working on my second, Clockwork Charlie.  It’s a new venture for me, and I’m stepping out of my comfort zone on this one.

In the times between, I write short stories, and even dabble in some poetry. If there’s anything else you’d like to know, feel free to ask.

Skewered Halo Review & Giveaway

About the Book:  Skewered Halo is like no other story you have ever read! Diane Montrose wakes up one morning to find out that her entire life has been based upon lies and treachery. Everything she thought she knows… she doesn’t!

It’s bad enough that as a young girl her older sister informed Diane that she was placed on her parents’ doorstep and that she was nothing better than garbage. But when, at the age of eighteen, she finally informed her parents of the story they denied the whole thing, yet still sided with the treacherous sister. To make matters worse her sister managed to dictate everything in Diane’s life even though she didn’t know it!

Follow along as the lies, treachery and mystery surrounding Diane are uncovered….. or are they??

My Review:  This was a very interesting book. This story of such an evil sister makes me glad I was an only child. This book is more like a twisted version of sibling rivalry. The damage done by one sister to the other still has effects even as grown ups. A very good read.

Where to Buy:  Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Publisher

Author Bio:   Brenda Youngerman writes about stories that matter. A southern California native coming from a very large family where she never felt like she fit in. “I was the youngest member of a huge family and I never really felt like I belonged there.”

Her first novel, Private Scars, was an expose of what happens to a victim of domestic abuse when they have never been exposed to it. From the moment the first review came out Youngerman realized her calling… that of the voice of the victims.. those who don’t have the strength to speak for themselves. Since Private Scars (2006), Youngerman has published a novel a year, each one exposing another social issue that those in power choose not to discuss. “If one person is helped by one of my novels, that is a good day.”

Skewered Halo takes a look at the filth behind sibling rivalry that goes unnoticed by inattentive parents. Brenda is currently at work at her eighth and ninth novel (simultaneously).

Make sure to check out her on her website and her blog.

The House on Blackstone Moor Review & Giveaway

About the Book: “They say my father was mad, so corrupted by evil and tainted by sin that he did what he did. I came home to find them all dead; their throats savagely cut. My sisters only five and eight were gone as well as my brother who was twelve. My mother too lay butchered in her marriage bed. The bed her children were born in…”

Young Rose Baines discovers the savage murders of her family by her mad, incestuous father.

She is plunged into a nightmare of hell and is incarcerated in two madhouses after which she is helped to obtain a position as governess at Blackstone House.

The house is located on haunted moorland. Nothing is as it seems for Blackstone House and its inhabitants have hideous secrets. There is unimaginable horror there but there is love too–love that comes at a terrible price.

The story is as haunting as it is terrifying and will remain with the reader long after its disturbing tale has been told.

My Review:  This book was amazing. The details, the characters, everything had my imagination running wild with very vivid images. The story was great and the plot was perfect. This is exactly the type of book I love to read. It had me jumping everytime I heard a noise at night. If you like haunting books, this is a must read.

Where to Buy:  Amazon, Amazon UK, Smashwords

Author Bio:   I wrote my first story at age 8. It was sci-fi but as both my parents were sci-fi fanatics it wasn’t a surprise. I continued to write however life got in the way as it often does, and it wasn’t until 2000 that I turned back to writing. I joined a local writer’s workshop and was greatly encouraged to keep up with my writing and to send things out. Shortly afterwards, I was selected by Northwest Playwrights of England for further development but found I preferred fiction writing.

Widely published in horror and sci-fi anthologies, The House on Blackstone Moor is my first novel. It is a tale of vampirism, madness, obsession and devil worship.

Set in 19th Century Yorkshire, its locales include Victorian madhouses as well as barren, wind-swept Yorkshire moors. The story is a marriage of horror and gothic romance. I think it can best be described as being gothic paranormal romantic horror. I suppose you could say I want to put the Goth back into Gothic.

Living in the area the novel is set in, was very beneficial. Also, as a great admirer of the Brontes and frequent visitor to the Bronte Parsonage in Haworth, I found myself nearly obsessed with recreating the gothic romantic narrative. Having been employed in a hospital which had been historically a workhouse and asylum in Victorian times, I was able to add great realism to the depiction of the asylums as described in my novel.

Make sure to read all about her and her upcoming book on her website.

Beyond Coastal Sun Care Review & Giveaway

Summer is here! Maybe not officially, but the days are sure hot and sunny. So what does that mean for us? Lot’s of time spent outdoors playing, hiking, swimming, and/or doing yard work. While you’re out, you need to make sure to protect yourself and your loved ones. In my family, putting on sunscreen is a must if you’re going outside so I was very excited when I was contacted about trying the Beyond Coastal sunscreen products.

Beyond Coastal has a number of great sunscreen products. All of their products are Gluten Free, Cruelty Free, Fragrance Free, Oxybenzone Free, Paraben Free, and Oil Free. This is great for people with sensitive skin like me.

Beyond Coastal Sun Care Giveaway

I received the above travel kit to try out. The kit included:

  • Active Sunscreen:  Our best-selling sunscreen. Our SPF 30 traditional sport sunscreen blocks 97% of UVB rays and protects from UVA rays with Avobenzone. Moisturizing, water resistant, rubs in clear. Formulated for outdoor athletes to be used on days of intense or prolonged sun exposure.
  • Natural Clear Sunscreen:  A revolution in natural sunscreen. Goes on clear without leaving a trace of white. Received EWG’s best ranking in 2011. Protects with 20% zinc oxide for broad spectrum protection. SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays. Moisturizing, water resistant. Use daily on face and hands.
  • Natural Sunscreen for Kids:  Safe, clean and non-irritating all-natural protection for kids on the go. Protects with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for broad spectrum protection. SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays. Moisturizing, water resistant. No harmful chemicals. Aloe and shea butter nourish skin.
  • Active Face Stick:  EWG’s best-ranked non-mineral sunscreen. Simple and healthy– only 12 ingredients. SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays and Avobenzone protects from UVA rays. Moisturizing, water resistant, rubs in clear. Easy non-messy application for snow sports and squirmy kids.
  • Lip Balm:  Our simple healthy beeswax-based lip balm needs only 11 ingredients to repair and restore cracked lips. SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays and Avobenzone protects from UVA rays. Nourish you lips with coconut oil, vitamin E, and yerba mate.

I finally had a chance to try these products out this past weekend and I absolutely loved them. All of the items stood up to the test of husband and myself doing yard work, kids playing in the yard, and kids and myself having one awesome water balloon fight. My daughter and I both have sensitive skin and we had no reactions. One major thing that I loved is the smell. It was so nice to be protected and not smelling like a coconut. The Face Stick was something that I have never seen before and I loved it. I tend to reapply the most on my face so it was very nice being able to reapply without getting stuff all over my hands. Overall, I think the Beyond Coastal Sunscreen products are definitely worth buying

One thing to always remember, the SPF, or Sun Protection Factor, indicates how well a sunscreen protects you from UVB rays, which cause sunburn. Dermatologists recommend SPF 30 for maximum protection. SPFs higher than 30 offer a false sense of protection and cause people to think they can stay out longer. Rather than choose an ultra-high SPF, apply sunscreen generously. Reapply every two hours, or more if getting wet or sweating.

GIVEAWAY:

One lucky Snag A Bargain reader will win a Beyond Coastal Travel Kit just like the one I received!

About the Book:  Anistasia moves to Brooksville where she meets John. The duo hit it off almost instantly and become best friends before it grows into something more than friendship. While they blossom together they have to go through the daily routine of high school drama and jealous ex’s on John’s part and over bearing brothers on Anistasia’s part. But each struggle seems to hold the two together even more.
Along with the daily high school problems they also have to deal with the mafia hunting down Anistasia, John’s mafia father, and the every other weekend street races. Running from bad guys, keeping the cops out of the know how, and trying to stay undetected is proving to be more of a handful when the only person you can trust is also on the run.

My Review:  After reading the book summary, I was intrigued so when I got the opportunity to review it, I was excited. Let me just say that I wasn’t disappointed. I actually couldn’t put the book down.  The plot was great and the characters were very realistic. This is a great summer read. I can’t wait to read more books from this author.
